If you're reading this, these two statements probably describe you:
- You want the Senate Democrats to filibuster the Alito nomination.
- You are a small donor to the Democratic Party and its candidates.
What follows from these two statements is obvious, but I have found only one diary devoted to the idea, posted a couple of weeks ago by Shaking the Tree . When you call your Senator, describe yourself as a small donor, an essential, life-sustaining part of the contemporary Democratic Party.
Follow the flip.
Here, roughly, is what I told the staffer for my Democratic Senator:
I'll probably always vote Democratic, but I have given hundreds of dollars to the DNC, my state party, and various candidates over the last couple of years, and if the Democrats in the Senate cannot resolve to stand their ground on the most important Supreme Court nomination in a generation, it may one disappointment too many. I will send my poltical bucks to people and groups who will fight for my values.
It's getting near midnight on the Altio nomination, so call your Senator and threaten him or her where it counts.
